The Tranquil Laburnum Walk Vancouver's mild climate allows the cultivation of a comprehensive plant collection from around the globe, blended harmoniously with species unique to the Pacific coast. Each season has its own special beauty. Spring starts with a flourish of colorful bulbs. In April, VanDusen's magnolia trees burst into flower and May features thousands of outstanding rhododendrons. The perennial gardens are ablaze with color during June, and summer is the time for brilliant hanging baskets and delicate water lilies in the lakes. September brings drifts of blooming heather and October offers the rich tones of autumn foliage. Many varieties of broadleaf evergreen shrubs stand out in November and December. VanDusen's famous collection of 147 holly varieties is also at its best in winter and not far into each new year, the enchanting fragrance of witchhazel may be enjoyed.
The Hedge Maze is a favorite with children. They can also be found enjoying the motion of the floating bridge, finding small wildlife or exploring the meandering pathways.
Many special events take place all year round, such as the VanDusen Flower and Garden Show on the first weekend of June, and the Festival of Lights in December. Sprinklers Restaurant is conveniently located within the main garden building, and offer fine west coast cuisine. Guided tours of the garden are also available.
