HANGING BASKETS &
PATIO CONTAINER CARE

Hanging Basket & Patio Container Care provided by Beier Nursery, Aldergrove, B.C.  (See our full listing under Nurseries and Garden Centers)

When you create your hanging baskets and patio containers, always use a professional growers potting mix. At the time of planting, add a 3 month slow release fertilizer (Nutricote or Osmocote 14-14-14). In addition, feed with a water soluble fertilizer on a scheduled program.

WATERING:
Due to increased air circulation and limited root space, hanging baskets will dry quickly, so check them frequently, especially when the weather is hot or windy. (High winds can cause burn on tender plants such as fuchsia). Depending on weather conditions, it may be necessary to water some hanging baskets or patio containers more than once a day.

DEADHEADING:
Remove faded blooms to allow the plants to continue blooming instead of going to seed.

FERTILIZING:
To get the best performance from your baskets and containers, it is very important that you continue the liquid feed or slow release fertilizer program throughout the growing season.

SLOW RELEASE:
14-14-14 as recommended on the package. Water Soluble: 20-20-20 or 15-30-15 or 10-30-20 as recommended (the slightly higher middle number promotes more blooms).

ENJOY:
After all your work, sit back and enjoy your flowers. You will get hours of enjoyment watching the bees, hummingbirds and butterflies that are attracted to your colorful display.

If your basket or patio flowers are well cared for you can continue to enjoy them until frost. We have heard of some blooming as long as late November, depending on your climate!

Have a good summer and enjoy your flowers! (P.S. Watch for aphids and other flying insects that like flowers too!)
