ORNAMENTAL GRASSES

This section is being created for us by Randal Atkinson from Meadowsweet Farms in Langley, B.C. Randal is one of the leading growers of fine hostas, ornamental grasses and perennials and will be adding to this section periodically, so be sure to check back regularly for new additions! CAREX elata `Aurea', also known as Bowles Golden Sedge. This sedge is one of the very best for shade. Flowers in mid spring appear almost black against the bright foliage. Grown best in partial shade, this carex will tolerate full sun if kept on the wet side. Great near ponds or as a container specimen in the shade, Carex elata `Aurea' will grow to 45cm (18") tall by 60cm (24) wide. Give this bright gold carex time - not a fast grower, but well worth the wait. Hardy from zones 5 - 9.
